Book one |  Georgian Stranger | a collection of travels and poems on the road through Georgia in Autumn 2011

This small series is from my work in progress on Georgia and the
Caucasus region told through a series of re-imagined semi
autobiographical and documentary stories. I use poetry, text,
historical context, found objects and 1st hand interview to create
modern day stories that can reflect and transpose a poetic sense of
unknown places and journeys, whilst at the same time make an effort
to challenge modern preconceptions of places, people and our
relevance in this world.

Part one: ‘Georgian Stranger’ examines a foreign visitors reaction
and interpretation to this land of turmoil and beauty as his own life
comes to a crossroad of doubt and choice. Arriving in the land of the
gun and the cha-cha, of fantastic tomatoes and high peaks, mad
samarshruto drivers, blind but powerful faith, colourful transit
cafes with its passing & enigmatic travellers, starving roadside dogs
and crumbling house’s of fallen beauty. He arrives and travels in the
land of his dreams with his estranged lover.

This hand made artists book is about my first journey in Georgia and the
Caucasus region told through a series of re-imagined semi autobiographical and documentary stories. I use poetry, text,
historical context, found objects and 1st hand interview to create a modern day story that can also reflect and transpose a poetic sense of unknown places and journeys, whilst at the same time make an effort to challenge modern preconceptions of places, people.
It is a love story in the footsteps & homage to Pushkin & Lermontov. A story about trying to retain or regain lost love. The love of the imagined as well as the physical love of the lover laying beside him.
It is first most a hand made diary with real objects from an obscure place but also a woven story of passion and loss. I encounter strangers, I feel as a stranger & who is the Georgian stranger.
